What Is Anthurium Dorayaki x Anthurium Regale?

Anthurium dorayaki x Anthurium regale is a rare hybrid cross between two legendary aroid species. Anthurium ‘Dorayaki’ is a cultivated hybrid derived from Anthurium crystallinum lines. Indonesian growers first developed it through careful selective breeding. Its name comes from a beloved Japanese round pancake sweet, which perfectly describes its almost circular leaves. Anthurium regale, on the other hand, originates from the humid pre-montane forests of Peru. It grows naturally near the Huallaga River valley, in the regions of Huánuco and San Martín.

Furthermore, Anthurium regale was first introduced to the horticultural world in 1866. Collectors have sought it for over a century because of its enormous, velvety, heart-shaped leaves. Combining these two iconic parents produces a hybrid with exceptional ornamental value. Consequently, this cross is extremely rare and commands strong interest in the global aroid collector market.

Additionally, this hybrid is especially significant because both parents belong to the velvet-leaf group. These are Anthuriums prized for soft, textured foliage with striking pale veins. The resulting seedlings carry the best traits of both parents. Moreover, very few suppliers in the world offer seeds of this cross with verified quality and legal export documentation.

Induare Agro is proud to offer this extraordinarily rare hybrid seed to collectors globally. We source our seeds from carefully managed parent plants grown in Indonesia. Our seeds are organic, fresh, and prepared to the highest export standards.

Aesthetic Features Anthurium Dorayaki x Anthurium Regale

Anthurium is a large genus in the family Araceae, with over 1,000 recognized species. This hybrid inherits outstanding visual traits from both of its remarkable parents. The result is a plant of extraordinary beauty that stands apart in any serious collection.

Leaf Structure

The leaves of Anthurium dorayaki x Anthurium regale are its most defining feature. From the Dorayaki parent, seedlings inherit thicker, more rounded leaf blades with a compact, low-growing habit. From the regale parent, they inherit scale — leaves that can grow impressively large at maturity.

Furthermore, both parents contribute a luxurious velvet texture to the leaf surface. This texture comes from fine surface hairs that give the foliage a soft, matte finish. The leaf color is a deep, rich green. Prominent pale veins — ranging from silvery-white to creamy green — run across the surface in a bold, striking pattern.

Additionally, the sinus — meaning the open notch at the base of the leaf — is typically broad and well-defined. This gives each leaf an elegant, heart-shaped silhouette. Consequently, even young seedlings display remarkable visual presence. Moreover, the veining pattern on each individual plant can vary, making every plant uniquely beautiful.

Flower and Fruit

Like all Anthuriums, this hybrid produces an inflorescence — a flower structure — made up of two parts. The spathe, which is a hood-like outer modified leaf, and the spadix, which is a central spike that holds the tiny true flowers, form together as a single unit. Primarily, however, collectors grow this plant for its spectacular foliage, not its blooms.

The spathe is typically green and modest in size. It does not compete visually with the plant’s dramatic leaves. Furthermore, when pollinated, the spadix produces small berries that contain the seeds. These seeds are what Induare Agro harvests, processes, and exports with full phytosanitary certification.

Growth Habit and Maturity

This hybrid grows as a terrestrial plant — meaning it grows in soil rather than climbing trees. It forms an upright clump of leaves from a central rhizome — an underground stem that stores energy. Primarily, this growth habit makes it suitable for pots, raised beds, or well-prepared garden soil in tropical climates.

Additionally, growth speed is moderate under good conditions. Each new leaf unfurls slowly and dramatically. Consequently, every new leaf that opens is a genuine event for the collector who cares for this plant. Moreover, mature plants in optimal conditions develop leaves of impressive scale, reflecting the regale parent’s grandeur.

How to Grow Anthurium Dorayaki x Anthurium Regale

Follow these steps to give your seeds the best start possible.

Step 1 — Prepare Your Growing Medium Mix orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of coco coir to create a light, well-draining substrate. This mimics the loose, airy forest floor where Anthuriums naturally grow. Avoid heavy soils that hold too much water.

Step 2 — Sow Your Seeds Press seeds gently onto the surface of the moist substrate. Do not bury them deeply — a light covering of fine bark or moss is sufficient. Additionally, use a small tray or seedling pot with drainage holes.

Step 3 — Provide Warmth and Humidity Place your tray in a warm location with temperatures between 22–28°C (72–82°F). Cover the tray with a clear plastic dome or wrap to hold humidity above 70%. Furthermore, use a seedling heat mat if your ambient temperature is below 22°C.

Step 4 — Provide Indirect Light Place the tray under bright, indirect light. Avoid any direct sunlight, as this will dry out seeds and damage tender seedlings. Additionally, a grow light on a 12-hour cycle works very well for consistent germination.

Step 5 — Water Carefully Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Use a fine mister to water from above without disturbing the seeds. Consequently, overwatering is the most common mistake — always allow slight surface drying between misting.

Step 6 — Transplant Seedlings Once seedlings develop 2–3 small leaves, transplant them carefully into individual small pots. Primarily, handle roots very gently at this stage to avoid transplant shock. Moreover, maintain high humidity around young plants for at least 4–6 weeks after transplanting.
